First Tooth

Simon's first tooth is poking through. He was fussy for about an hour last night and this explains it. So far you have to go rooting to look for it but it should be visible enough soon for a photo op!

Simon @ 6 months

I can't believe that our baby is half way through his first year. Time has passed so quickly and although some of it was a blur, most of it has been so much fun. Here's a snapshot of Simon at 6 months.

- weighs 19 lbs. 9 oz.
- loves to smile at everyone and does so with a wide open grin
- is always a sopping wet mess because he loves to blow raspberries
- is not a big fan of fruit, veggies, cereal or anything that's not breastmilk
- can sit independently
- rolls from back to front and front to back
- is squeezing into size 3 Pampers Cruisers
- wears size 6-12 month clothing
- wakes once in the night to feed between 7:00pm and 7:00am
- loves to be naked - especially if he has an audience
- loves to be outside in the fresh air
- sits up in his carseat on walks with one arm hanging over the side
- naps for 3-4 hours per day
- sucks his thumb endlessly
- pulls his hair hard when he's tired and nursing
- pulls my hair hard whenever he can get hold of it
- loves to be sung to - he definitely has his favourites

Little Boy Through and Through

Simon showed his true blue colour yesterday and Matt couldn't be more proud since his boy seems to have a keen interest of home improvement/design shows. Yesterday evening (after consuming 4 cans of pop) I burped. Simon let out a little giggle so I burped again which resulted in full on belly laughs. Between Matt and I, we had him laughing for about 20 minutes. Who knows if it would be funny if he wasn't tired but I'll do anything to get this little guy laughing.

What are you looking at Willis?

Simon had a rough night last night - he fell asleep at 6:30pm no problems but the phone woke him up about 15 minutes later setting off a long and painful bedtime process. We tried to let him cry it out, then Matt rocked him, and rocked him, and rocked him but even when he was put down asleep, he would wake up as soon as he touched the mattress. At one point we just decided to give up and bring him downstairs for awhile - here's what he looked like when he came down. Yes it is suctioned to his face!

Driving Range Hysteria

Yesterday was a gorgeous, sunny and cool day so we figured it would be great to spend some time outdoors. Since Matt loves to golf and doesn't get as much of an opportunity to do so now that Simon is here, we thought that the driving range would be a fun outing. To say that Simon loved it would be an understatement. He laughed every time the ball was hit only taking a break when the geese took off. Granddad and Matt probably had the worse "game" ever because they broke down in laughter every time Simon did. Towards the end some other golfers showed up and Simon found them pretty entertaining too - but they were truly bad so Mommy was laughing right along with him. We're hoping that we can duplicate this experience again when we have a video camera handy.

Simon @ 5 months

* is able to reach and grab almost anything - he is particularly fond of glasses with liquid in them
* wakes once a night to feed
* cries himself to sleep most nights
* goes to bed @ 7:00pm
* has lots of light brown hair - although the stuff at the front hasn't quite caught up with the stuff at the back
* loves to hang out in his jumper although he hasn't figured out the function yet
* does full on belly laughs for his select audience (this doesn't generally include his Mom)
* loves to be outside on the new deck
* is no longer swaddled - footed pyjamas keep him warm
* loves to watch Gus and Brutus and grabs onto whatever he can - unfortunately for Gus it was his ears and his penis!
* is wearing size 3 diapers and blowing out every one - we just need to get through the stash that we have and then he's on to size 4s
* has started swimming lessons with Matt - he loves it except for the back floating
* has really found his feet
* moves around in his crib - he's never in the same spot that you put him down
* is wearing mostly size 6-12 month clothes and even at that, some of them are tight
* is proficient at rolling from back to front but still only occasionally goes from tummy to back
* has tried and rejected rice cereal
* is a smiley, happy little boy
* is starting to combat crawl
* has doubled his birth weight and weighs in at a whopping 18lbs. 9oz.
* can sit tripod style unassisted

Baby Kisses

Simon is now giving kisses - usually only after some prompting with a lot of kisses from Mom and Dad. He hasn't quite gotten the technique down yet though as he comes at you with open mouth and leaves a trail on your cheek. It's so cute though that you never mind having to wipe.

On another note, we got some photos down with Simon. There's too many to post, but I'll be putting up some of our favourites over the next little while.

Simon's Ultrasound

Simon's ultrasound was hell! He started off happy enough smiling and chatting with the ultrasound technician but when he started grabbing onto the scope and rubbing his hands in the gel, he had to be restrained a bit. This started off a chain reaction once he realized that he couldn't roll and move about as he pleased. In about 10 seconds he went from chatty, happy baby to screaming and inconsolable. I have never heard anything like it and just looking at how desperately unhappy he was just about caused me to end up in tears. I'm glad I wasn't alone because at one point it took three of us to keep him still to try to get a clear picture. Thankfully, he forgot about it all pretty quickly once he had eaten and he was fresh again for some extra shots. A nap in the car on the way home also helped. Now we just have to wait for the results of this - but we're back at CHEO on Monday for another test.

UPDATE - our Pediatrician's office called today with the results and everything was normal with the ultrasound.

More Picnic Pics

Phiney's Point Picnic (say that 5 times fast!)

Well the humidity is finally gone and the weather has been just gorgeous so we thought it was a great day to spend outside. We pulled together a picnic in record time and packed up Simon for a day at Phiney's Point. We managed to convince Grandma to come to enjoy time with Simon and the beautiful scenery and weather. We found a spot in the shade albeit on a huge hill and set up for lunch. The only downfall of the day was the massive amount of ants - but what's a picnic without ants? We got some great shots of the day so here's a few:
