Aside from a little sleepiness
Aside from a little sleepiness, Simon seems to have finally come around. He napped for about 4 hours today but he actually spent some time playing (both here and at G&G Fullers) and he ate some pears for dinner (and some puffs but most of those he fed to Brutus). The diaper rash appeared much less red as well so no more screaming for diaper changes. We'll probably stick around home for one more day and then venture out on Saturday when Matt is off work.

Turning Point
We might have finally hit a turning point. Today was rough force feeding Simon fluids but finally around 4:30pm things started to turn around. It might be because liquid duties were taken over by Gramma and Grandpa so I didn't have the stress of holding him down but Simon actually took a substantial amount of formula compared to the past few days. Now we are just dealing with a nasty side effect of the virus, a diaper infection. Poor Simon's little boy parts are so red and hot that the diaper cream is melting on contact with his skin. Cross your fingers that tomorrow is a better day!

We're on Lockdown
Well our house is officially off-limits until we can get it sterilized. Lynsey spent Saturday here and was sick yesterday and since she's pregnant, she needed to go to the hospital for IV re hydration. Matt spent his first few minutes this morning hugging the toilet. I'm feeling much better, just a little weak. Poor Simon is still miserable - he's only peed once today because he is so dehyrated but we are pumping pedialyte into him every 10 minutes. Hopefully he starts to come around soon.

Sunday's Seven on Hold
For this week - Simon and I both have a virus and it's a nasty one. It's hard to find much to be grateful for in this moment.
It's Tuesday and we're over the worst of it so I thought I would come back here to do last week's Sunday's Seven and 365 Days of Pictures.
Here's last week's shots:

And the list of things to be grateful for this past week:
1. Seeing a chick flick with some girlfriends - 27 Dresses
2. Professional family photos even though Simon was a little uncooperative with his thumb!
3. Girl's Night Out at Amelia's - we used to do it every week and now it's so hard to get everyone together.
4. A big playgroup with some of the Mom's who have already gone back to work.
5. Simon making progress with solid food - he ate some chicken and pasta this week - the only downside is that it takes him about 3 hours to chew each piece!
6. We finally have an appointment to get our floors fixed
7. Emjae celebrated her second birthday!

The Diaper Runneth Over
Well I think I have the answer to why Simon was such a cranky mess yesterday - he has yet another bout of diarrhea. He's really tired and not too interested in food and we've had to have one emergency bath today since the diaper was not mighty enough to contain the explosion. We're hoping to get another bottle into him before bed and then crossing our fingers that he makes it for part of the night. Poor little guy.

Another Tooth and Bloody Mouth
I don't know how Simon manages to stay so happy while teething (at least during the day)! The other day I got a piece of popcorn kernel stuck in my teeth and it aggravated my gums enough to want to take Advil and here Simon is popping teeth left, right and centre. We noticed some white bumps on the top and figured more teeth were coming soon. I guess Simon thought they were taking to long so he smashed his sippy cup into his gums and out popped a tooth and we had another bloody mouth to contend with. So the total is 6 teeth - 3 on top, 3 on bottom and I suspect another top one will appear this week.

Sunday's Seven and 365 Days of Pictures
Here's this weeks pictures:

Another busy week and so much to be grateful for.
1. More yummy recipes to add to our repertoire.
2. Simon is eating food with a bit more texture - Gerber puffs are now a mainstay around here.
3. Simon is sleeping better - we actually have a few more nights where he has gone almost right through until 7:00am.
4. A nice relaxing Saturday - Simon slept in until 8:00 (and Matt graciously let me sleep until 9:00), took two good long naps and was perfectly behaved during his waking hours.
5. Matt and I had a night out with friends - nothing fancy but good to do something different in the evening.
6. Getting the last 12-18 month size Valentine's shirt for Simon.
7. Meeting Matt for lunch on Friday - we're going to miss being able to do this when I'm back at work.

The Master Manipulator
Matt had an early soccer game last night and I tagged along so I could go out and socialize after. Auntie Debbie and Uncle Eric were the babysitters for the night. We left around 6:00pm which means 1 hour of Simon time before bed and then the can rent a movie for the rest of the evening - at least this is how it usually works for us. Well Simon is one smart cookie and always manages to keep his babysitters on their toes. We came home at 9:30pm and immediately heard Baby Einstein and when we walked in he was cuddled up on Debbie's lap watching his favourite show. Debbie and Eric looked stoned from watching Baby Einstein on loop (it's the one thing that calms Simon down) and Simon looked quite pleased with himself for getting to stay up late watching television - we definitely have a Master Manipulator on our hands.

The Look
Although he has been perfecting this look for quite a while, we have rarely been able to get it on camera. Today was a different story since it was basically the only look we saw. It is generally accompanied by rapid, heavy breathing. I think he does it to loosen the snot crusties but who knows with this kid!

Waving
Waving can now be added to Simon's circus baby bag of tricks. He was waving at my Mum from across the room today and my Mum was quick to point out that he has a very royal wave - much like that of the Queen.

Teeth Grinding and a Bloody Mouth
Today's diaper change was quite an event. Simon was doing his usual Houdini tricks and trying to disappear off the change table which usually results in a bit of a wrestling match. Well today's match saw Mommy draw some blood. Somehow he managed to cut the inside of his mouth and was bleeding everywhere. I didn't notice at first and thought it was just his usual crocodile tears but I felt bad once I saw it. He settled once he was loaded into the car to go to the pool and had no recollections of it once he was splashing about.
Now that we have uppers and lowers, Simon has developed a love of grinding. It is the worst noise imaginable. I'm hoping that the novelty of this wears out quick!

Simon @ 10 months
It's hard to believe that we are approaching a year. These 10 months have whipped by much faster than my 9 months of pregnancy! Simon has changed so much in the last month. At 10 months Simon:
-is crawling like a demon. He's fast, he's furious and he is usually on the trail of his favourite playmate, Brutus.

-pulls up on everything - there could be a crumb on the floor and he can pull himself up to a standing position :) He's managed to stand on his own a few times but only when he's holding a contraband object (like the remote control) that captivates him completely.
-is still not sleeping through the night although he is starting to get up only once a night on a more regular basis
-is developing a little bit of a personality - if he can't do something, or if you take something away from him, you'll know that he is not impressed
-has five teeth - three new ones in the past month
-is still wearing size 12-18 month clothing
-is an acrobat when it's time for diaper changes - he rolls, he lunges, he stands and he does high kicks!
-wears size 4 diapers
-still obsessively sucks his thumb
-takes two naps a day - sometimes three if we're out and about in the car
-always comes at you with his mouth open - sometimes he bites, mostly he just slobbers on you
-can clap, do high fives, occasionally waves - he's a regular circus baby
-cruises the furniture but isn't that interested in walking with our assistance
-will not drink from a sippy cup but he is fond of pulling off the lid and dumping the water on himself
-has started to play shy with new people - tilts his head or lays down with his head on the ground

-is still chunky but I have no accurate way to weigh him

Sunday's Seven and 365 Days of Pictures

Lots to be thankful for this week!
1. Simon slept through the night 7:00pm to 7:00am - only once but at least now we know it's possible.
2. We found a daycare provider who lives three houses down that is willing to do part-time care and we feel super comfortable about leaving Simon with her.
3. We had a great meal and some socializing with Sonja, Kevin and Jen.
4. We tried a bunch of new recipes this week and we have more on the list for next week.
5. Simon got to go to the pool and splash around - we haven't had him in lessons since November and he loves every opportunity to "swim".
6. Our cleaning lady came after a month's hiatus!
7. Matt has started to prepare the bathroom for painting.

High Five
The high five - Simon's latest skill. Almost as cute as clapping and Simon loves the cheers that he gets after doing it. He still needs a little prompting but in a week it should be a regular part of his repertoire.

Let it be known
Let it be known that Simon slept from 7:00pm on January 10th to 7:00am on January 11th. It's a miracle that we hope will be repeated!

Another Tooth
It seemed like the first two teeth took forever and it's been almost 3 months since the last one came through. I posted about his two top ones the other day and today I noticed that his bottom right one is through as well. No wonder we have had such a cranky baby on our hands lately.

More teeth
Simon is finally getting more teeth. The top, middle, right one is through and the one of the left looks like it will be following shortly. We're hoping the pain phase is over soon since he has been waking up very unhappy - Advil is very much a close friend these days.

Sunday's Seven and 365 Days of Pictures
A new year and a whole new list of things to be grateful for - my one hope is that Matt and I can add an uninterrupted night of sleep to this list sometime soon!
This week, we are thankful for:
1. Great company for New Year's Eve. We spent the evening out for dinner at Fratelli's with John, Maureen, Debbie, Eric, Ann and Leo. We laughed a lot about Eric's freakishly fat hands, talked about favourite movies and enjoyed some good food and lightening fast service.
2. Matt is thankful for a hockey filled New Year's Day with a Pittsburgh win at the outdoor NHL game. He spent most of the afternoon cuddled with Brutus downstairs to keep him away from the kids.
3. I am particularly thankful that Matt shovels 99.9% of the time. I shoveled this week for the first time in 2 years and I am not cut out for manual labour! Considering the amount of snow that we have gotten this year, I have a lot to be thankful for.
4. Another turkey dinner for Epiphany - I personally can never eat too much turkey so this is a great tradition!
5. Scalloped potatoes - need I say more!
6. My digital camera - I have been snapping away pictures of Simon to have 365 days in pictures. I missed New Year's Day but I figure since it's a leap year I can still make my goal. Here's the pictures to date.

7. Matt - he really is too good to me. I napped Saturday away and went shopping and he kept Simon entertained, fed and changed. He is the best Dad and husband.
8. And I had to add an eighth thing for this week - Simon clapping. It is so sweet and the excitement on his face makes each day brighter!

Trying out My Hair Dressing Skills
Simon woke up from his nap today looking a little shaggy so Matt and I decided to try out our new comb that cuts that we bought at Canadian Tire. This thing sounded like the bomb - you just comb and it cuts for you. No trying to maneuver scissors around a squirming baby, quick and easy, that is if it worked. Instead of even locks, Simon came out looking a little patchwork on one side (since that's all he would tolerate) and he has a bald spot at the back or a dimple as I, the hair dresser would like to call it. We'll have to take some photos tomorrow and post them and then look around for a hair styler that has a way with stubborn and fidgety babies so that she can fix my mistakes.

Clapping
After weeks of me desperately trying to get Simon to clap he finally did it today - and without any prompting from me. He was just sitting in front of me on the floor and the next thing I know, he's clapping away. It's so cute to watch a baby clap. Their hands only touch at the palms and it's soundless but the smile that they have when clapping is priceless.
