It's never ending these days. Simon talks the entire time he is awake so he provides lots of material for us. Here are some of our latest favourites...
After our trip to the Puppets Up Festival, everything is a puppet show. Matt was changing Simon diaper which usually means a few laps around the room naked. Simon grabbed onto his penis, yanked it and screamed, "look it's a puppet show Daddy".
Matt and Simon were racing up the stairs the other day.
Matt: "On your Mark, get set"
Simon interupts: "I'm not Mark, I'm Simon"
While Matt and I were out and about near Scotiabank Place.
Me: "Is the Brittney Spears concert tonight"
Matt: "I'm guessing by the BS spray painted on the side of that van that it is"
Simon: "That's BS"
Every night at bath time - such a boy.
Matt: "What do you want to wash Simon?"
Simon: "My penis"

I feel used
I woke up to the sweetest two-year old this morning. He brought me a card and sang, "Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Mommy, happy birthday to you". Then before I could even move, he followed up with, "can I have cake now".

s(Miles)
He's starting to give them out freely now and they not always followed by the passing of gas! He's most generous with them when he's kicking around on the floor or when he's about to be fed. He's also been cooing and chatting up a storm.

Out of the Mouth of Babes - Simon's Latest
I don't want to ever forget some of the things Simon is coming out with...here are some of his latest favourites.
"Poppa took it" - his standard response these days when we ask him where one of his toys is. Apparently Poppa has quite the stash of Simon's toys hidden somewhere :)
"You're making me sad" - he breaks this one out quite a bit these days, usually when you're tickling him.
"Those are mine actually" - when I commented on how much I liked another kid at daycare's sandals.
"Stop talking Daddy. I'm talking to Mommy." - and vice versa
"Thank-you Daddy." - said randomly in the car, requiring a "you're welcome" in response.
"I'm named Simon. I'm two." - his standard phrase to break out when we go into stores, the park, etc.

You're so vain
You're so vain. You probably think this blog is about you...
And I guess at one time it was, going by the name. Since Brutus is wildly ignored since having Simon and Miles, I thought I would show you what he is up to to get some attention these days.

Busy Weekend
Matt has Friday's off during August to help me keep my sanity with dealing with two kids. Poor Simon, we packed these three days so full, the poor kid is exhausted.
Friday, Simon and I headed to the park for a play date with my Mom friends. Simon loves the park and spent most of the time commandeering other kids toys. This one poor kid had to tolerate Simon following him around the park trying to get hold of his mini excavator. He eventually got a turn after he enticed the boy over to his bulldozer. From the park, Simon headed to swim with his Dad. He enjoyed his usual splashing around, collecting and counting toys and lining up rubber ducks. After a long nap, we finished off the whirlwind day with a trip over to Lynsey and Shawn's. They were braving a night with three kids (Braedon, Emjae and Seamus) and thought it would be good to add Simon to the mix. Simon absolutely adores playing with his cousins and was thrilled to be included. He enjoyed trying out all of Seamus' toys, making pizza and helping build a fire. Nothing beat out the smores for him though. He enjoyed them thoroughly judging by the remnants on his face and in his hair. We had to make it an early night due to the mosquito fest - poor Simon swelled up so bad.

Saturday we hung around our place until mid-morning and then headed over the Experimental Farm. Simon checked out the big animals while I fed Miles and then spent about 20 minutes watching the chickens. He would count the ones indoors, the go out and tell the chickens there to go inside so he could count them too. The chickens were not cooperative :) We wrapped up the morning with a trip into the tractor exhibit. Simon loves to play with the computers there and loves to check out the tractors, although he's a little hesitant to try out any of them, particularly the non-stationary ones.
Sunday we head to Almonte with Seamus, Emjae, Lynsey, Shawn and Maureen for the Puppets Up festival. We didn't get started until quite late so we were only planning on catching one show, that is until we got to the admission gate and realized the admission was $15 an adult - YIKES. Thankfully the kids were all young enough to be free. We wandered a bit and then lined up for a show. Let's just say, that the kids loved it. Simon stayed behind to repeatedly say bye to the dragon. We decided to stay for a second show to try to feel like we got our moneys worth. This show was much more professional and entertaining. The only bad part is that Miles decided that it was the perfect time to practice blowing out his diaper and with no change table in sight, it was quite the effort to change that. Thankfully he's still cute and Uncle Shawn was nice enough to offer up his lap as a change table. Simon didn't make it far in the car before passing out. He was so tired, we even managed to transfer him to bed when we got home, which never happens. And just because we weren't busy enough, we topped off the weekend with a trip to the Lonestar. 6 adults, 3 kids (2 and under) and 2 lbs. of fajitas. All and all a fun filled weekend. One of these weekends we're going to actually have to sit still and stay at home so that we can get Simon potty trained.

Miles @ One Month
Well the first month with Miles was infinitely easier than the first month with Simon. I'm not sure if that is due to him being an easier baby, or a combination of the delivery and recovery being easier, Matt being off for a month, and our experience with being second-time parents.
At One Month, Miles
-is wearing size 0-3 month clothing having outgrown the newborn stuff we borrowed in a week and a half (thank godness we didn't invest in anything!)
-has gained weight at a rapid pace
-wears size 1 diapers even though they are still ridiculously big (we weren't able to commit to opening another pack of newborn size since he is growing so rapidly)
-is starting to have more awake periods during the day after sleeping away the first few weeks of his life
-wakes once or twice at night to eat
-hates the car, most of our car rides involve Matt or I reaching over the seat to pop in the soother or our finger to settle him
-has blue eyes, dark brown hair and baby pattern baldness - his hair line is receding into a mohawk
-is generally pretty easy going and happy
-is still sleeping in the Master Bedroom in a bouncy chair which keeps him upright and helps drain the nasal passages from his first cold
-is starting to track voices and motion and turns to look at us when we're talking

More Miles
He's growing so quickly, he no longer looks like a newborn and has moved on to the baby stage. Here's some random cuteness.

Weaning from a bottle...
Weaning for a bottle is challenging - not only is Simon not interested in drinking milk out of a cup, but there is a lot of whining and tears. We started yesterday and I already want to give in since I have managed to get about 2oz. into him. I thought letting Simon pick the cup would help but he wanted to pick the, "bottle cup". It's so sad hearing him say, "I don't like milk from this cup anymore" when I give it to him with a straw. He didn't seem to have a problem drinking milk at daycare though (we got photographic evidence today). Apparently if Phillipe thinks it's yummy, so does Simon. I think I'm going to have to pay Phillipe to come over and encourage Simon to drink milk on the days that he doesn't go to daycare.

Happy Birthday Dad!!
We celebrated Dad's birthday with a barbeque and cake at Debbie's. The grandkids were all vying for Granddad's attention the whole time and provided endless photo opportunties and smiles.
Belly Bumps!

Rockstars!

Are these crooked?

Line up for cake.

Simon is such a clown
Here's how Simon insisted on sitting around the other morning.....

And a Simon funny. Simon went running to tell Matt that, "Brutus has dinosaurs on". Matt was totally confused (as he is by most of the stuff Simon says these days) and followed Simon out into the great room where he saw a very ashamed Brutus sitting with a pair of Simon's dinosaur pyjamas on his head. Thankfully our very intolerant dog is very tolerant of Simon's antics (thanks in part I think to the frequent snacks that Simon hands out). Two year olds are so much fun ... when they're not whining at least.
