Mister Miles

Just a few quick pictures of Miles:

Wearing his cute patchwork outfit - it was supposed to be his "coming home from the hospital" outfit but he was so tiny, there was no way it would fit.

Taking a lesson from Brutus - sleeping on the couch on a pillow, it doesn't get more comfortable than that. If you click on this one and make it large, you can check out this kid's hairy arms. He definitely inheirited the hairy arm gene from Matt.

Scooter Boy

Simon got his scooter for Christmas and aside from pushing it around the house a few times, he's never shown much interest in riding it. I guess he's been watching the kids around the neighborhood because he hoped on and had no problem mastering it. He even took a few of his new cars for a ride on his "scoooder". Don't you love the helmet?

Phil's Birthday Celebration

Parties have definitely changed now that so many of our friends have young children. We were invited to a birthday bash to celebrate our friend Phil's 40th birthday. We had asked my parents to watch Simon, thinking he wouldn't be interested in an adult party. Well it turns out, the party was more for the kids, Amelia had even rented a bounce castle for the kids and there were toys lining the walk for the kids to play. Simon tested out all of Justice's toys, scoped out the ladies, and was first in line for cake. We had a great time (Miles was fully cooperative and slept almost the whole party away) and enjoyed celebrating with our friends.

Becoming a Chunky Monkey

Miles is becoming quite a chunky little man. I think he's quite offended that we refer to him as "Mini Miles" since he was so much smaller than Simon that he's trying to catch up and quick. We had our two-week follow up appointment and weight check today and Miles weighed in at a whopping 8lbs. 9oz. It was quite funny actually when the nurse weighed him because she thought she had made a mistake since Miles had gained almost a pound in a week. She actually went to re-weigh him because it couldn't be possible! Doctor's like to see babies back at birth weight at 2 weeks, Miles decided that he would rather be birth weight plus a pound. It's nice not to have to worry about him eating enough, we'll have to start calling him "Maxi Miles" pretty soon.

July 7th - 7lbs. 9oz.
July 8th - 7lbs. 4oz.
July 9th - 7lbs. 1oz.
July 10th - 7lbs. 4oz.
July 13th - 7lbs. 11oz.
July 16th - 8lbs.
July 20th - 8lbs. 9oz.

Tattletale

Now that Simon can talk, there are no secrets. He narrates what he is doing now, what he did earlier (or "yesterday" which is the only timeframe he seems to know), what he did at daycare....

While we were at the hospital, Simon stayed with Grandma and Poppa. Simon has them wrapped around his little finger so not surprisingly, they warmed up his bottle for him. We have finally weaned him off warm milk but Simon always asks for us to, "make it warm".

Simon: "Make it warm please"
Me: "We don't warm it up anymore"
Simon: "Grandma does"
Me: "Oh does she"
Simon: "And Poppa too"

Umbilical Cord

It's gone - the umbilical cord that is. It's going to be much easier to change diapers from here on out without having to work around the belly button. Not to mention that aesthetically it looks better.

And a related Simon funny. The other day he was helping Matt with a diaper change. Simon is obsessed with poop and is always hanging out to comment on the size of it. When Matt was changing Miles diaper, Simon was "helping". At one point, Simon pointed to Miles umbilical cord and exclaimed, "More poop Daddy. Big poop Daddy."

Photo Shoot with Auntie Lynsey

Miles met with his Auntie Lynsey yesterday and we took advantage of her photography skills to get some newborn photos of our latest addition. Miles was not pleased with not being held and didn't cooperate fully so we had to cut it short. We'll have to try again sometime in the coming week since my one regret with Simon is not having many pictures of him when he was itty bitty.

Check out his cute dimple in the second to last shot.

Meeting Miles

So many people for Miles to meet in his first few days of life. Here are some of the shots of Miles meeting his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins:

Jaundiced

Well they almost didn't discharge us from the hospital on Wednesday because Miles was showing signs of being jaundiced. Needless to say, this brought me to tears as I had been awake since being admitted - the whole sleep when the baby sleeps is a joke in the hospital, particularly when you're not in a private room. I had every intention of leaving the hospital and thankfully our pediatrician supported our choice to leave as long as we agreed to go back the next day as an out-patient to get his bilirubin levels rechecked. So Thursday morning we headed back in for another heel prick. Unfortunately for us, we ended up with a trainee technician so they had to do the draw twice - not fun for me or Matt to listen to our baby scream. In the afternoon, we went to our pediatrician's office to get a weight check and the results. Unfortunately, Miles' levels had increased and his weight had dropped to 7lbs. 1oz. which meant we had to go through the whole process again Friday. Friday's results were better, bilirubin levels were starting to fall and Miles had gained a few ounces but not enough to get us off the hook for another appointment Monday. Thankfully, Simon is still in daycare because I can't imagine all of this running around with a newborn and a toddler. Cross your fingers that Miles' two hour round the clock feeding schedule has flushed out his system and brought him back to his birth weight.

Introducing Miles Xavier Fuller

Monday started off with me in full nesting mode, vacuuming the much neglected bedrooms, laundry and trying to get some last minute things ready in anticipation of our latest addition. Monday ended abruptly with the alarm clock blaring (it must have been set sometime during my frantic cleaning)and a frantic dive to turn the blaring noise off. I think that was the nudge I needed to start labour as 25 minutes later, the floodgates opened when my water broke. Unfortunately, even though it wasn't accompanied by labour, we had to head right to the hospital to be treated with antibiotics. After waking up Grandma, and then doing a trial run halfway to the hospital (we had to turn back for the camera), we arrived around 2:00am in full style sporting a bright pink beach towel which did wonders to disguise my leaky state! We were immediately ushered into a labour delivery room and hooked up to both antibiotics and Pitocin to get things going. Having been in labour for 36ish hours with Simon, I was expecting to settle in for the long haul and eagerly awaited my epidural to get some sleep. Turns out, our little guy had other plans as he made a quick arrival at 6:05am, after 2 pushes, he didn't even wait for the doctor to suit up and was delivered by our labour and delivery nurse, Shelley. Miles Xavier Fuller weighed in at a mere 7lbs. 9oz., almost 2 full pounds less than brother Simon (despite estimates of another big baby). He is 21.5 inches long and sports a full head of spiky black hair. It was a much easier birth than Simon and recovery is going well. Aside from the lack of sleep in the hospital (I didn't manage any from admission to discharge), things are going well. Miles is a bit jaundiced but I begged mercy to go home so we'll have to go for some additional testing and follow-up this week. Simon has done well so far with his role of big brother, particularly since Miles bought him some great gifts.

Simon Says.....

Two year olds come up with the best material. Simon regularly cracks us up with his observations/questions/comments. Here are some of the latest.

As said by Simon while I was blowing my nose this morning....

"Mommy, you have a boogie?"
My response, "yes"
"Can I see?"
I guess this is my own fault since I always show Simon the boogies after he lets me get them out of his nose since it is such an ordeal.

As said by Simon while driving blind through Toronto traffic back to our hotel....

"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy"
No response from Matt who was trying to navigate traffic.
"Daddy I'm talking to you" (picture it announced slowly and with attitude for the full effect)

As said by Simon when we were vacationing at Sandbanks....

Me: "Are you ready to go to the beach Simon?"
"I'm too tired for the beach Mommy" - man we torture this kid

At the end of the day.....

"I'm done with the beach Mommy"

At the Toronto Metro Zoo.....

"The _________ are happy to see Simon" - apparently the animals are big fans of being watched by my child

At our place.....

Me: "Where's Mommy's baby"
Simon: "In Mommy's belly"
Me: "Does Simon have a baby in his belly?"
Simon: "Yes. And Grandma too." - yikes, probably shouldn't have started this conversation!

As said all week during our vacation....

"How about....Mommy do it.....Daddy do it....Simon plays with his trucks....." It seems as if every sentence started with this phrase and finished with "for a little bit".

As said by Simon while Matt and I were talking....

Simon: "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy"
Me: "Hold your horses Simon"
Simon: "Me ride the horses please?"

Pregnancy Photos

Lynsey was nice enough to take some pregnancy shots of me this time round. With Simon, I had them done much earlier and I remember it being much easier to move around and position myself. This time, I was very cumbersome and a lot of the poses come off awkward because I just couldn't get comfortable. Lynsey did manage to capture some great shots though. I was particularly impressed with the ones with Simon because we did the pictures on the bed which equals nothing but jumping and horsing around for Simon. Here are some of my favourites....
