Air Show or Mud Puddle?
We spent the day yesterday watching the Ottawa International Air Show from a nearby sand pit. With ticket prices equaling a mortgage payment, we decided the cheap alternative was a good idea since Simon's attention span is pretty short. Turns out we made the right choice since the highlight of the day for Simon wasn't the snowbirds flying overhead, it was a giant mud puddle. He saw his cousins playing around the edges and decided that he needed to be right in in and I got dragged along since I was afraid that he would go head first into the mud. This puddle kept him busy for about an hour and he protested mightily anyone who dared try to remove him from it. After getting muddied up and marking his face with war paint, we headed over to Lynsey and Shawn's for a run through the rinse cycle aka the sprinkler. Simon was not a fan of the cold water and instead went inside for a more civilized bath - that is after he took a spin on the mini ATV with auntie Maureen and tried to hotwire it for his own ride.

RCMP Sunset Ceremonies
We finally made it out to see the sunset ceremonies put on by the RCMP. Basically it's a show to highlight all of their specialized capabilities - from parachuting, to the band, to police dogs, to tactical troop, and Simon's favourite, the Musical Ride. We decided last minute to head over after John reminded us that Maureen was volunteering and would be in her red serge. Thankfully we have friends right across the street from the stables because the lineups to park were unreal - plus we were able to heat up Simon's bottle and grab a quick drink. Next year we'll have to remember to call first!
Although we were at the back of the crowd, we were right in the thick of it all since everything entered/exited by the fence behind us. Plus the kids were able to run around a bit and not disturb anyone.

Simon - a day in photos (Part I)
Okay here it goes - warning, we had a busy day and took almost 200 photos. Matt was off today so he even got in on it.
Waking up for the day bright and early at 6:30am. I only wish I could look this happy at that time of the morning.

Hanging out on my table - didn't you know that the chairs are only there to enable me to get up here!

Can't you see that I'm driving?? Quit distracting me with that flash.

My favourtie book - Hippos Go Beserk

Chilling out on my bus.

Simon Mick Jagger

Waking up Mommy - we let her sleep in until 8:30

Checking myself out in the mirror while I brush my teeth.

Off to the doctor for my 15 month vaccinations - he was voted best pediatrician in Ottawa and my Grandma got me a spot at his full practice!

Waiting for nurse Judy to come in and give me the needles - I didn't even shed a tear!

Mean Mommy waking me up from my nap so we could go to playgroup - aka Mommy's chance to chat!

Mommy and I at playgroup.

On to Nanna and Granddad's house for the afternoon. First stop, trying to crack the code on Granddad's computer.

Who let the dogs out, who, who, who, who, who

Simon always brings this toy over to Granddad since he animates it.

Simon - a day in photos (Part II)
Up from my second nap and ready to get going again.

First - to my kitchen to whip up a snack.

Next - out to the swing. Mommy and Daddy didn't last long though - it was a hot day!

Can't forget our little hot dog Brutus - he was panting after about 3 seconds.

My GQ pose.

Out past bedtime at the sunset ceremonies for the RCMP - my SIL Maureen is our resident Mountie.

Simon didn't recognize her in her uniform and made for a very difficult photo opportunity.

Simon commandeered a chair from the people sitting next to us - it keep him contained for the majority of the festivities.

Some of the highlights.....

Charge!!

Out for the count - what a trooper. He was up until 9pm and didn't make a peep the whole time. Did he even crash hard in the car though.

Thanks for sharing in our day. I had a lot of fun documenting it. We're not normally this busy on a typical day but it made for some interesting pictures!
